GBF Offers Sound Advice to Prairie Students

Several students from prairie provinces were successful in applying for grants from the Foundation, sttending the annual Sound Advice summer school organized by the Saskatchewan Pipe Band Association. The Sound Advice camps began in 2004, based on the model that goes back to 1967, when the first school was held at Fort San, Saskatchewan.

Maddox.AlexanderAlexander just finished his week at Sound Advice and had an amazing experience. He told me he wished that it was two weeks long. He made some new friends, learned a lot of new tunes and loved the world class instruction. He also said he was fed very well 😂.

We went with him to all of the evening sessions and were absolutely blown away with the instructor recitals. It is very generous of them all to travel so far to help out all of these kids. I did not get a great photo of Alexander alone but do have quite a few of him with his friend Maddox, who I also understand benefited from your scholarship foundation. Again, many thanks to your family foundation for supporting aspiring bagpipers in Saskatchewan. We sincerely appreciate it. Welcome to the Gandy Bagpiping Foundation

Front Row SeatWhat began as a hope and a small society to create positive opportunities for learners has—through the generosity of many— become a Foundation that has truly made progress in fulfilling its vision. At this website, we hope to bring to your attention a number of events that will raise funds for the Foundation, and help us to continue the work that we have started. As well, the website will provide ways for you to help the Foundation directly, by donating, volunteering, or just by sending us your ideas and encouragement.

The past few years we have raised enough money to provide scholarships to deserving piping students from various parts of North America. Thanks to the contributions you have made, pipers are getting the tuition and experiences they need to develop their piping.

Sometimes, this means getting extra tuition, or attending a summer camp, and sometimes it's about being able to attend a big competition that will develop a player's understanding and ability in that forum.

brucegandy frontrow200One of our first projects was the production of Front Row Seat, a CD of notable piobaireachd performances by Bruce Gandy. The CD captures live competition performances of some of his biggest moments in piping, and the liner notes tell the story of the day, the tune sources and inspirations. Sales of the CD help support the work of the Foundation, and we'd love for you to purchase it if you haven't already.
